Year:1984 | Project: IBM retail centers

Fueled by the astonishingly rapid expansion of the personal computer market, IBM embarked on an ambitious endeavor to establish its own network of retail outlets across Europe. In a collaborative effort, Studio Dumbar and Opera Studios joined forces to design a comprehensive system for product display and showroom identity that would be implemented across these retail spaces.

However, the computer industry of that era was marked by significant volatility and rapid changes. Unfortunately, just as the demonstration site in Rome was completed, IBM made the strategic decision that diversifying into a retail venture was no longer prudent. As a result, the project came to an unexpected and premature conclusion, reflecting the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of the technology sector during those times.

In the early eighties there was no option to convert your designs into 3D rendering simply because the software was not yet accessible. All designs were therefore converted into a model that was made entirely by hand.
