Mammie ik ga dood
During World War II, the Japanese, driven by their expansionist ambitions, also seized Indonesia, which was then a Dutch colony. They interned all Dutch nationals in concentration camps. This book delves into the narrative of a women’s camp where letters and diaries play a pivotal role.
For the book’s cover, I employed a papier-mâché object: a woman on a partial bicycle, symbolizing the journey towards freedom. The bicycle was adorned with photocopies of excerpts from authentic camp letters and diary pages, forming a collage that encapsulates the historical context and emotional depth of the story.
